Privacy Policy

Marked Word is built to keep your work on your own device. This policy explains what little data is involved and how it is handled. It is written plainly on purpose.
What stays on your device
Your studies — the passages you mark up and their annotations — are always written to your own browser first (IndexedDB), and the app keeps working with them offline. That local copy is the one your sermon depends on: it is there whether or not you have a connection, and whether or not our servers are reachable. Backups you export are files you save yourself. If you clear your browser data, the local copy is removed.
Your account
Using the app requires an account, and an account is just an email address — there is no password to choose or for us to store. When you sign in we email you a link and a short code; that email is delivered by Resend on our behalf. We use your address to sign you in and to send occasional notes about the app. We do not sell it, share it, or add you to unrelated mailing lists.
Studies synced to your account
Once you are signed in, your studies are also copied to our database (hosted by Supabase) so they reach your other devices — prepare on a laptop, present from an iPad. Only your own account can read them: the database enforces this per-row, not merely in the app. If the same study is edited on two devices at once, both versions are kept rather than one silently overwriting the other. Syncing never blocks you from working; if it fails, the app carries on with the local copy.
Closing your account
Closing your account is deliberately not the same as erasing it. Your studies are retained so that signing up again with the same address restores them — teachers lose work often enough without us helping. If you would rather everything were permanently deleted, email us and we will do that instead.
Live-share links
When you use a Go Live link, the passage and your markings are relayed through our server to the screens you invite, so they can follow along in real time. This content is held only transiently to deliver it, is not tied to your identity, and is discarded shortly after a session ends. Anyone should assume a live-share room is visible to whoever holds the link.
Analytics
We may use privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics that count page views and general usage in aggregate. It does not build a profile of you or track you across other sites.
Hosting
The site and app are served by Cloudflare, which processes standard request logs (such as IP address) to deliver and protect the service, per its own policies. Accounts and synced studies are stored with Supabase, and sign-in emails are sent through Resend. Each processes this data only to provide their part of the service.
Children
Marked Word is a tool for teachers and study; it is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
