These terms cover your use of Marked Word (the “app”) and this website. By using them, you agree to what follows. They are intentionally short.
The service, as-is
Marked Word is offered during its beta free of charge and “as is,” without warranties of any kind. We work hard to make it reliable, but we can’t guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Keep your own backups of anything important (the app makes this easy — export a backup file).
Scripture text
The bundled translations — the King James Version, World English Bible, and American Standard Version — are in the public domain. Any translations added later remain the property of their publishers and are provided under their licenses; you may use them within the app but not redistribute them.
Acceptable use
Use Marked Word for study, teaching, and presenting. Don’t abuse the live-share relay (for example, flooding it or using it to distribute unlawful content), don’t attempt to disrupt the service for others, and don’t misrepresent the app as your own product.
Your content
Your studies and markings are yours. We claim no ownership of them. They live on your device, and — once you are signed in — a copy is synced to your account so it reaches your other devices. You can export a backup file at any time, and we would encourage it for anything you would hate to lose.
Your account
An account is needed to use the app, and consists of your email address; sign-in is by emailed link or code rather than a password. You may close your account at any time from the app. Closing it keeps your studies so that signing up again restores them; if you want them permanently erased instead, email us and we will do that.
Cost
Marked Word is free to use. There is nothing to buy, no card to enter, and no charge of any kind. If that ever changes, separate terms would be presented and agreed before anyone is charged — nothing here obligates you to pay.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Marked Word and its maker are not liable for indirect or incidental damages, or for lost data, arising from use of the app.
